In recent years, fragmentation and commercialization have thrown the city of Rotterdam – with its rich history in electronic dance music – back into a state of dullness and monotony. Pakhuis is based upon a collaboration of different organizations, with different styles, that share the same enthusiasm.
Pakhuis is breaking the silence in Rotterdam’s nightlife, offering a chance to talented artists and their innovative and creative organizations, providing each of them with a healthy platform to do their own thing. Pakhuis is currently the most remarkable initiative to revitalize Rotterdam’s electronic dance scene. Pakhuis presents the dance public with a variety of dance music and offers its participants a chance for networking, co-operation and a possibility to work together with like-minded people.
One of our core principles is that quality doesn’t have to be pricey. The bigger names in the “Dance Industry” (and we don’t like the sound of that word) keep demanding more and more, leaving less and less for all other aspects that make up a good party. One of those, of course, is the location. Pakhuis Rotterdam is held in vast monumental warehouse complex named “WHT” or “Westelijk Handelsterrein”, which has a central street, connecting adjoining units on both sides. During PKHS nights these smaller areas are converted into club rooms and a chill-out for one night. The central street serves as a meeting place to eat, drink, smoke, have conversations: offering time and space to chill and socialize – a practice that has been disappearing in modern day club life.
A fixed part of the PKHS-formula is an all you can eat organic dinner at top restaurant level for just € 5,=. This offers the opportunity to the public to meet and greet the DJ’s, and start the evening with their friends without having to cook.

Pakhuis is allereerst dance muziek, kunst, goed eten, een perfecte locatie en een leuk gemengd publiek.Fragmentatie en commercialisering hebben ertoe geleid dat de Rotterdamse dance scene – met zijn rijke historie en met bekende pioniers op het gebied van elektronische dansmuziek – terug bij af is. Er is niet veel bijzonders meer te vinden in Rotterdam op het gebied van dance en het is al een jaren lang de dood in de pot. Pakhuis is een samenwerking van verschillende organisaties, met verschillende stijlen en met één gedeeld enthousiasme.
Pakhuis doorbreekt de radiostilte door kansen te bieden aan jonge, creatieve artiesten en hun organisaties, door een gezond platform te bieden waarop iedereen zijn eigen ding kan doen. Pakhuis biedt zo het Rotterdamse publiek een breed spectrum aan betere dansmuziek en biedt aan de participanten een mogelijkheid om samen te werken met gelijkgestemde geesten en te netwerken.
Eén van PKHS-basisprincipes is dat kwaliteit niet veel geld hoeft te kosten. De grote namen in de “Dance Industrie” (een woord dat de negatieve ontwikkelingen goed typeert) vragen elke keer meer en meer zodat er alsmaar minder overblijft voor alle andere aspecten die van belang zijn voor een goed feest.
Eén daarvan is uiteraard de locatie. Pakhuis wordt georganiseerd in het “WHT” of “Westelijk Handelsterrein”. Dit complex heeft een centrale overdekte ‘straat’, waar aan weerszijden de kleinere pakhuizen zijn gelegen. Deze worden op de PKHS-avonden omgetoverd tot clubruimtes en een chill-out. De ‘straat’ in het midden is de ontmoetingsplek waar vooraf kan worden gegeten, gedronken, gerookt mag worden en waar plaats is om te chillen, praten en socializen: een belangrijk element dat vrijwel verdwenen is in het huidige uitgaansleven.
Een vast onderdeel van PKHS-formule is de mogelijkheid om bij en met ons te eten: Pakhuis serveert vooraf een biologisch dinner op toprestaurant-niveau voor slechts € 5,=. Gedurende dit eten is er de mogelijkheid om de DJ’s en de organisatie te ontmoeten, of om de avond met vrienden te starten zonder te hoeven koken.
